Pofadder brecciated mylonite

Pofadder brecciated mylonite

This is a mylonitized rock that underwent later brittle deformation. Because of the small amount of matrix, angularity of clasts, and small amount of clast rotation, this is classified as a crackle breccia. This photomicrograph was taken under cross-polarized light with 25X magnification. The sample was taken from the Pofadder Shear Zone in South Africa.
