Pofadder mylonite and microbreccia

Pofadder mylonite and microbreccia

Photomicrograph of a mylonite and microbreccia from the Pofadder Shear Zone in South Africa, in a host rock of metagranite. The bottom half of the photomicrograph is a mylonite with some porphyroclasts within the foliated matrix. The top half is a microbreccia (could also be named a cataclasite), with angular clasts showing previous mylonitization. The picture was taken under a magnification of 25X, under cross-polarized light.
