Naukluft cataclasite

Naukluft cataclasite

Photomicrograph of cataclastic dolomite with rounded euhedral grains. This sample is from the Cambrian Naukluft Thrust Fault in central Namibia. Known as “gritty dolomite,” the cataclasite is formed by coseismic carbonate dissociation and fluid-rock interactions. Its matrix is made up of dolomite particles and calcite cement (Rowe et al., 2012). The image is under 25X magnification and plane light.
